Purpose
My wife and I consider it a privilege to represent the Baptist Bible Fellowship International as church planting missionaries to London, England. We strive to uphold the beliefs and truths of the Bible while maintaining a close association with the churches that comprise the BBFI. Our objective is to build independent, self-sufficient, reproducing congregations with the purpose of equipping believers to be more like Christ, which ultimately brings glory to God (1 Cor 10:31; Eph 4:11-16). We intend to evangelize the lost, disciple converts (Matt 28:19), plant churches, and develop leaders in order to replicate New Testament congregations within London (Eph 4:11-12; 2 Tim 2:2).
We moved to London to declare the Gospel message to those that are unbelievers. As followers of God, we are to go out and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to all peoples, baptizing those converts, and teaching them to observe the commandments of Christ (Matt 28:18-20). This includes London. Believers are instructed to preach the Gospel to every person in all locales and are not to exclude any from hearing the Gospel (Mark 16:15), even in places where the Gospel may have had a stronghold in the past. We are concerned with the present spiritual condition of London. Christ commanded his disciples to evangelize locally and globally through the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) with the effect of growing the body of Christ (Acts 2:41-47).
Greater London is a diverse and multicultural city with many differing beliefs contrary to the word of God and consequently, it will be necessary to emphasize the authority of Scripture. The Bible is the absolute standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be judged (Heb 4:12). As a result, everything I do and think in life, including ministry, must be and will be judged by the Bible.
The Bible constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and is sufficient for all things (2 Pet 1:19-21; 2 Tim 3:15-17). This sufficiency means that Scripture contains all the words of God he intends his people to have at each stage of history and has all the words of God that man needs for salvation, for trusting him wholly, for obeying him perfectly, and for living a godly life. Therefore, I will use God’s word as my only rule and sole standard for evangelization, discipleship, counseling, and ministry in London.
London, in many ways, has rejected the one true and living God. Many people within London have turned to postmodernism or atheism. There has been tremendous growth of many pagan religions such as Islam or Hinduism. Fortunately, there is hope because God desires that no one should perish but that all would repent of their sins and believe on Him (2 Pet 3:9). We go as ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20) and preach the word (1 Tim 4:2) so that the people of London may have the opportunity to receive Christ as their savior.
We continually endeavor to reach as many people as possible for the cause of Christ. We continue to learn and adapt to the many cultures and people groups of London. With so many different ethnicities in one city, we seek to become all things to all people in order that some might be saved (1 Cor 9:19-22). This does not mean that we abandon the Bible or its gospel message. We will not integrate the Bible with other teachings or beliefs to be less offensive or more compatible with others but teach the exclusivity of Christ. As church planters to a pluralistic and religiously tolerant London, we will teach that Jesus is the only way to God and salvation (John 14:6).
